Open letter to incoming Ambassadors

March 5, 2017

The Forward Foundation is a group based around females in sport. Forward Foundation's aim is to encourage and help young girls participate more in sport. This came from noticing a lack of female participation in school sports, as well as in the playground. The Forward Foundation takes on talented and dedicated girls who participate in minor sports around the country, and help them promote their sport to a wider group of girls, hopefully encouraging them to join a club or carry on an interest in the sport. Becoming an ambassador means you get the opportunity to control how you promote your chosen sport to the incoming talent, passing on your knowledge and skills.

  • You become involved in a support network of people who can help you and inspire excellence in the change you want to implement.
  • You are given the resources tools and guidance to achieve things that would be near impossible to achieve on your own.
  • You can get more girls active and inspire positive change in the world.
  • You get to meet awesome people that you can find friends in.

Forward Foundation's ambassador program challenges the norms when it comes to sport, allowing you to break through society's view on females in sport. Being an ambassador encourages you to promote your sport in the way you want it to be seen, as well as showing what Playing like a Girl is really like.

When it comes to school, social life and sports, it's hard to juggle evenly between them all, but when you have a passion for something you love, you will always find time. Participating in a sport opens up new opportunities to meet new people of different ages, travel around the country or world, and has the ability to allow you to express yourself in something you love. Sport is a different way to be involved at school as well, as you can create relationships with staff, coaches and students, becoming a reliable asset in your schools sporting community.

It's rare to see women's sport shown on TV or in the newspaper if it's not netball, so we are missing out on a whole world of talented female athletes rocking it in their codes.

With being an ambassador you do have to put your time into projects and fundraising. Projects are the things you as an ambassador hold, organize and control within your school, club or community. Your project could either be a skills session, an introduction to your sport or just a fun day where you play games or drills with the participants.

You will get to meet some other amazing ambassadors and inspirational female athletes and entrepreneurs, so get stuck into your sport and show the world how to Play Like a Girl!

Forward Foundation Ambassador Programme 2017 applications open now

October 31, 2016

The Forward Foundation Ambassador Programme aims to increase participation in girls’ sports through identifying young female game changers and enabling them to inspire those around them to participate in sport.

We’re not looking for the best player in the team, we’re looking for girls willing and passionate about lifting the profile and participation levels of girls’ sport in New Zealand. Forward Foundation Ambassadors can be any secondary school girl involved in sport in any way. Preference is given to those involved in sports with lower participation levels.

The role of Forward Foundation Ambassador encompasses one major project throughout the year and attendance at the Ambassador Conference. Ambassadors may also choose to attend events as Forward Foundation Ambassadors or promote the Foundation to their school and community.

Eligibility

  • ● Enrolled fulltime in a New Zealand secondary school

  • ● Because projects are self-driven, applicants should demonstrate:

    1. Practical experience in driving projects

    2. Leadership potential

    3. Passion for girls’ participation in sport

    4. Excellent communication skills

    5. Ability to work with students, staff and community members

If this sounds like you, please download the application form below, fill it out and email it to: jo@forwardfoundation.co.nz

INTERSCHOOL TEAM FINISHES A CLOSE SECOND

August 3, 2016

The Forward Foundation Interschool Mash-Up team placed second in this year's Cantebury School competition in the final against Christchurch Girl's High School. A superb display of skill was shown in the match from both sides which was reassuring to see the quality of girls rugby in Canterbury growing each year.

Player of the match was awarded to Forward Foundation's very own Mel Puckett.

We'd like to offer a huge THANKS to our volunteer coach and management team this year for their hard work to making the team a success - we couldn't do it without you!
